Discipline is our culture, Anarchism is anti-ANC

Monwabisi Ncayiyana is member of ANCYL & ANC in kzn Moses Mabhida Region ward 24
Most of us the son’s and the daughters of Oliver Tambo we are incognisance of the fact that; the young must respect the old and the old must never shy way to respond in the same fashion. One can even ague that if we keep this basic principle, the ANC will forever remain intact. However so this can’t be translated as; Youth must shy away on raising serious and fundamental issues confronting the youth and the society at large.

We must also learn one thing in the ANC; that there is nothing better than a discipline leader of the movement irrespective of whatever situation that is prevailing in the organisation. Further more one should distinguish between a general disciple and a revolutionary disciple leader.

Among other important issues in the same context of a revolutionary discipline leader, A cadre of that calibre will go as far as respecting whatever decisions taken by an organ, irrespective of either he/she was against that view initially or beliefs, so long that decision is the interest of ANC. Most importantly at times respecting such decision will not be enough but such leader will become a custodian and a champion for such decision/program. This will show a political maturity and a revolutionary discipline cadre of the congress movement.

Whereas disciple remains our culture, there will always be some people whom will go out of the way; in that regard it becomes our prime duty to work on those to inculcate discipline at all material times. A failer in this regard we will be donating our lovely ANC to be an organization for hooliganism and by tomorrow it become a culture or a norm to be a hooligan in the Congress Movement.

Again it is difficult even to start imaging that being radical can be substituted with anarchy. Let it alone that there is not even a thin line between the two. Not so long ago we have witnessed barbarism in the name of “Youth must be radical” and that prompted an imagination the ANC must bow on its League or accept an onslaught continuous defiance and further claiming that without us there is no league.

I must confess that; we are proud to be members of the African National Congress and will forever be loyal to the ANC not to a particular individual until death do us apart, as we learn new things every day in the ANC alongside we must not baby-seat nor we must tolerate ill-discipline practices that has been perpetuated over and over again, no matter who you are, where you from what position are you occupying, either at organisational level or at government level.

Today the erosion moral decay and ill-discipline has become an order the day not only by some members but even by some leader’s. Over a past couple of months we have witnessed a lot of misconduct in organizational gatherings, whatever case maybe, either these are manifestation of leadership battles towards conferences or personal battles. What is more painful is the use of media during such practices, singing of derogatory songs that are undermining the entire of ANC.

Among those whom are not immune from such; I doubt they understand what is known as self discipline, let alone organisational discipline. Infect I strongly believe that such practices are of low political maturity and they don’t find any expression in the ANC or in the Alliance.

Lastly, relating on the above practices. At times one should keep pondering on what is it that will oblige anyone whom claims to love the ANC so dearly to burn ANC t-shirt in public? What is it that oblige anyone to perpetuate looting wearing the t-shirt of the Organ that he/she claim to love it so dearly?

The fact that one is falling to come up with logical answers on the above questions, that’s also raises a concern as a discipline member of the ANC, what else should be done to inculcate more disciple in our Organ?

Address by Monwabisi Ncayiyana at NUMSA local Shop stewards in PMB 10 January 2012

Comrade Chairperson
NUMSA Shop stewards;

Esteemed guests;

Dear delegates and participants;

Comrades, ladies and gentlemen:

It might be very confusing or difficulty to address a delegation of this character given a blank cheque by comrade Musa; however I will take this opportunity as an honor to me.

As Msholozi will be giving state of the nations address, millions of South Africans are patiently waiting for new promises for better leaving conditions.

Comrades February is the month for lovers let us all make sure that we respond positively in that regard. Most importantly let us love our women/men beautiful or handsome as they are.

Let me reflect on women that has contributed positively to the emancipation of our country; Lilian Ngoyi, Mama Abertina Sisulu, Gertrude Shope, Helen Joseph, Sophie de Bruyn, Ellen Khuzwayo, Nomzamo Madikizela-Mandela and many more comrade. These are all heroes and it’s important to know our history in this context as we are determining our destination. Talking about woman/men let us refrain on engaging on any form of abusive tendencies against each other.

Comrades it’s an honor to stand here and reflect on one of the fundamental lessons that mama Albertina Sisulu thought us “when it comes to revolution we must be open and be frank to each other, reflect the ground lost and the ground covered” regarding this quote we must not be shy to ask ourselves questions such as; where we from? Where are we now? Where are we going to? And how are we going arrive there?

The character of unions and the working class

let me open this address with favorite quotes from Vladimir Lenin when he says “without a revolutionary theory, there can be no real revolutionary movement” however in the same vigor further more I would like to borrow some words from one of Germany political philosophers, Karl Marx has this to say “Practice without Theory is blind, Theory without practice is sterile”

I want to reaffirm what I have said in my term of office as PEC member of SASCO; that Unions are our last hope in this political mess that we are experiencing today. Self accumulation and self enrichment has become a norm where millions of our people continue to die because of hunger whereas the rich men across the road die of too much money. Comrades the working class remain the only class that is capable of changing any material conditions.

Among many one of our heroes, comrade Joe Slovo has this to say on trade unions “A trade union is the prime mass organization of the working class. To fulfill its purpose, it must be as broad as possible and fight to maintain its legal status. It must attempt, in the first place, to unite, on an industrial basis, all workers (at whatever level of political consciousness) who understand the elementary need to come together and defend and advance their economic conditions. It cannot demand more as a condition of membership. But because the state and its political and repressive apparatus is an instrument of the dominant economic classes, it is impossible for trade unions in any part of the world to keep out of the broader political conflict”

In the same context of Slovo it becomes clear that, the very the workers’ economic struggle cannot be separated from the struggle against national domination however so it becomes vital to maintain the distinction between trade union politics and overall revolutionary leadership.

We must always put our personal interests aside and make sure we put the interests workers first, a failer to that will be a clear political suicide.

Capitalism and capitalist

The collapse of soviet union gave a birth to the current crises of capitalism that we are experiencing today, in reality the fall of soviet union mark the fall of Marxism-Leninism as a governing ideology, and the only two remaining Marxist-Leninist governments today are those of North Korea and Cuba including Venezuela. The ruthless economic exploitation by capitalists or land lords to workers continues to ravage any future for workers to be free economically.

In 2008 we witnessed the failer of capitalism, but capitalists continue to insist that we should continues using this governing system of which I strongly disagree with that. In the same context of capitalism, Labor brokers are clear example of slavery of the day in South Africa.

Corruption

Many liberation movements in Africa are on a dier state because of corruption cancer, I’m still not sure either ANC is going to be the victim of the same circumstances.

The fall of Colonialism and apartheid system in South Africa gave a birth on many tendencies that we are witnessing today, however so I want to further argue and say apartheid was not just race related issue, it was capitalist orientated from the very beginning, e.g Grant for old people

The Unity and cohesion

The unity of shop stewards is paramount at all material time; all shop stewards must learn from a Greek wise slave lived during 6th century BC his name was Aesop when says “United we stand, divided we fall “ internal battles and politics of friendship within committees will forever open loopholes.

The ruling party and the ruling class

Many of our people continues to confuse these two terms “a Ruling party and a ruling class” we need to spend more time in explaining these two contradicting words.

Before I seat down let me reflect on politics of today in the ruling party.

Whereas we still think that discipline should come first in all members of MDM there are those who still think Anarchy is Activism particularly some individuals within the leadership of the ANCYL.

On International Politics

From Iraq to Afghanistan, There is a false knowledge that has been propagated that Iraq possessed weapons of mass destruction which was not true, subsequently Afghanistan was the victim of similar circumstances by western forces led by America, either it was because of the oil or it was revenge from George W Bush emanating from Gulf war, I don’t know similarly; Libya has fall in the same trap.

In closing Chair let me borrow the following words from book The Wretched of the Earth, written by Frantz Fanon “each generation must, out of relative obscurity, discover its mission, fulfil it, or betray it” in the same context in South Africa this generation have the same duty or obligation.

I thank you

Amandla!!!!!

FREE EDUCATION

Monwabisi Ncayiyana SASCO regional Secretary Writes

The South African Students Congress (SASCO) has decided to embark on mass demonstration in all nine provinces of South Africa calling for free, compulsory and quality education, this has been long overdue since the ruling party has finally resolved consciously in 2007 in Polokwane Conference that education should be free in South Africa until to the first degree.

The South African Students Congress (SASCO) resolved on free, compulsory and quality education because majority of youth in South Africa are unable to study due to financial reasons, on other side the As South African Students Congress (SASCO) we seek to Transform higher education and Society in general, we belief that education is a primary tool in the liberation of our Country and its people from the scourge of poverty and underdevelopment.

In this regard it becomes clear that if you educate at least one child in a family you have broken the cycle of poverty not only in that particular family but to the community as a whole. Our understanding should lies along the fact that educating the youth is the investment for the future of South Africa however we mustn’t be surprised when some of our own students or people continue to question the possibility of free education.

Others will not only question the possibility of free education but they will go as far as disrupting or de campaign against this call only because there is a false impression imprinted on the minds of other people that the call for free, compulsory and quality education is a dream from SASCO.
We must not be surprised by those people simple because of various reasons but fundamentally class dichotomy is core reason behind those bunches of people, however we need to understand and clarify the confused elite not only because they do not understand this call but because either they are part of middle class whom do not understand the existence of poor people, It might be obvious issue to upper class why they don’t understand this call.

Universities such as Rhodes University, Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University and University of Stellenbosch continue to ridicule black students by excluding poor students, we must not only condemn this but we continues to mobiles Students against any backward mentality which is clearly institutionalised and reflective of the racist mentality that is still rife in management of universities epically former whites University.

We have agreed in principle that education is a right not a privilege; in this regard Education needs to be de-commodified as soon as possible.

Whereas the education in South Africa still determined by the Financial Arrogance of a particular family or individual we must be clear that we are not free in this democracy and we must continue to show that we are determined to continue with our demand for free, compulsory quality public education in this academic year, infect we must continue with mass action, mobilization of our students and we go as far as mobilizing the community to ensure that this ideal demand becomes a reality.

We must salute the provincial executive committees for their crucial role in ensuring that this becomes a success.
